My name is Johannes Lahnsteiner.

(here seen surfing a random chair on a random beach on Fårö, Sweden.)

I am a researcher in theoretical physics. Most of the things I work on have something to do with gravity and quantum field theories. Specifically, I spend my time on identifying non-Lorentzian structures within string and M theory. These naturally arise when considering decoupling limits such as the discrete light cone quantization---decoupling D0 branes in type IIA superstring theory. Another example is non-relativistic string theory which is a decoupling limit of topological states and displays some of the features of full string theory in an isolated setting. I have also worked on questions in pure supergravity, quantum field theories, and differential geometry. For more details, see my doctoral thesis here, my inspire, and my commented list of publications. Lately, I have become more and more interested in outreach activities and teaching.

When not in front of a computer, blackboard, or piece of paper you will most likely find me in the outdoors running, hiking, or cycling. Always enthusiastic about cooking and traveling. And blabbering about some new music, movies, or books.

For a summary of my work and activities, see the resume page. For a list of my talks and outreach activities see here. I record some thoughts about the years’ music releases here.
